Area boys

Area Boys are a afro-global-bass DJ duo from Bristol.

Area Boys is a DJ project conceived as the answer to the lack of contemporary international, especially African dance music in the Bristol music scene.

Area Boys are Ulli Bartsch (aka uliba) and Obaro Evuarherhe (aka O’baro) the purveyors of international beats anywhere between Düsseldorf and Lagos.

Together they discovered their love for african rhythms ranging from Fela Kuti’s afrobeat to Ghanaian High Life, east African Soukous, to more modern “afrobeats”: Kuduro from Angola, Kwaito house from South Africa, and Azonto from West Africa. In between you will find South American sprinkles of Colombian Cumbia, Raggaeton and Jamaican Dancehall.

Area Boys have delivered global beat fiestas at The Canteen, the Attic, the Bell, and the Pipe and Slippers in Bristol and at Passing Clouds in London and the Cellar Bar in Oxford.

They’ve played plenty of festivals like Larmer Tree Festival (closing set), Secret Garden Party (Feast of Fools), Brisfest, Blissfields and many more.

Previous booked DJ sets were on the same bill with Chief Boima (NYC, USA), Bass Kitchen Bristol (Ed Solo headliner) and a Fela Kuti tribute DJ set with VJ performance at Brisfest World Music Stage.

DJ sets with live bands included: Femi Kuti & The Positive Force, AJ Holmes & The Hackney Empire (London), Ruby & The Vines (London), London Afrobeat Collective (London), Sheelanagig (Bristol), No Go Stop (Bristol), Baila La Cumbia (Bristol), etc…
